What's Happening in Lino Lakes
Exciting news for Centennial area residents!Anoka County is planning to construct a four a half mile trail beginning in 2009.This new section will follow Rice Creek through the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve. It will start at the YMCA and Town Center in Lino Lakes and head southwest to the intersection of Lexington Avenue and County Road J.There is currently only funding to complete the north section of the trail from the YMCA/Lino Lakes City Hall site south to Rice Lake Elementary School on Birch Street.Eventually the trail will follow an existing trail on Birch Street west to Hodgson Road. From there it will travel west across Rice Creek to Baldwin Park in Circle Pines.Since the county is unable to build the entire trail at once, it will provide a temporary connection using existing trails. The temporary route will follow Birch Street, west to Ware Road, south to County Road J and then west to Lexington Avenue.Once complete, this trail will support Lino Lakes´ goal of connecting the north part of Lino Lakes with the south.I look forward to the completion of the first section in May of 2010!
A few years ago, the Metropolitan Council designated Lino Lakes as a "developing community" and mandated that they extend their vision to 2030.Lino Lakes is well recognized for its commitment to preserving natural resources while accommodating growth and upheld these values during the planning process. This three part process began with an extensive, public survey in early 2006.Then the community was asked to partake in Spotlight 2030 committees to help review the citizen´s responses and assist staff in creating a vision for the city in many different areas. The final part will be the completion and approval of the Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan will implement the city´s long-range vision and provide a guide for city officials to make those decisions necessary for achieving the vision. As a volunteer on one of the Lino Lakes Spotlight 2030 Committees, I am excited to announce that the plan is nearing completion. After countless hours from volunteers and staff, Lino Lakes will have a detailed plan to carry us successfully into the future! |
